This week we explored all sorts of seeds. We crumbled corn off of the cob, drew around a glued corn kernel, and glued all sorts of seeds.
We took a walk outside to find seeds, and learned that seeds travel!
There are fluffy seeds, seeds in berries, seeds with flowers, and seeds like pine cones and nuts. We found them all!
There was a tree down! and the challenge was to make your way through the branches safely. Everyone made it easily.
It's interesting to think about seeds in the fall. The cycle continues, from flower, to seed, to winter sleep, to growing again. We'll look at plants again in the spring. We have a few seeds to hopefully sprout in our window this fall.
We made corn muffins, and learned that cornmeal comes from ground up corn. Delicious!
After polling the classroom, we created an impromptu restaurant in the dress up area. The children helped to create a list for the restaurant, and all of the materials were gathered. We wrote a menu together that includes "fish fry well done" and "pasta with sprinkle cheese." There's always a line for the cash register, but there are also willing wait staff and customers. We hear language appropriate to a restaurant, and see exchanges that are serious and friendly. Next, we'll have to name our restaurant.
Also, happening in the classroom.......
Until Next Time,
Michele
