still windy!

Windy Week II was another week of colorful artwork and action! We looked at the weather this week, because we now know that the wind makes the weather. The children enjoyed painting with whiffle balls, making rainsticks with foil and rice inside a cardboard tube, and making clouds with shaving cream and glue "puffy paint". We ended our week by painting beautiful rainbows. We made sandwiches with cheese and bread and grilled them to make triangles and squares. Our weather graph has been tallied each day, and so far the sun has shown 6 days, it's been rainy on one day, and cloudy on three days. The snow made an appearance, too! Our block corner has changed to the hollow building blocks, and it turns out that there is room for everyone!

Everyone Knows It's Windy!

A windy week of beautiful weather, colorful artwork, and paper to move with the wind. We read poems about the wind, including a riddle whose answer was "the wind". The children explored their own wind power in the bubble table and blowing colors to make a painting, and allowed the wind outside and mechanical wind to move their fans, kites, and spirals that they cut out of colored paper. There was an improptu dance with scarves and cloud music and lots of time outside. We made popcorn with an air popper! and the children asked for the recipe to make at home......

Post Office Week

Post Office week was a week of writing the alphabet, role play, and sending letters to eachother. The children enjoyed being communicators! We had visits from guest readers, including a very small cat that had a story written about its friend! The children painted "mail bags"to take home with an alphabet book inside. They followed all the steps that they needed to to post a letter to each other, including writing, folding, sealing in an envelope, and putting a stamp on their letter. We sang "Mail Myself to You" and read poems about mail and letters. Our snack was a "love letter", or yummy fruit folded into bread envelopes and toasted. We discovered length this week, with straws and a student teacher to connect them with us, and chain links to stretch all the way to the door with help from friends. We have a long "ruler" in our room that stretches along the floor, and we found out how long we are as well. What a good week!
