Icebergs!

We had a wonderful week of snowy wintry fun. We found icebergs in our water table, and were able to use eye droppers of colored paint and salt to make glittery, glowing ice formations. Icebergs day two was water play fun, and an interesting end to the glittery water as it dripped into a dishpan below. The treasure hunt was a hunt throughout the school following a map and the numbers one through four. We filled up our bags as we traveled through the school! We baked enough gingerbreads to share with the K-1's class for their math fun, and, finally, our artwork continued to be patterned, glittery, and snow-like.

Visitors, and Winter, and Lanterns to Make.....

We had a surprise visit on Friday from the K-1's, dressed in all their finery! We welcomed them into our classroom and of course took a picture. Lots of smiles all around. The children celebrated winter time this week with blocks to build "fires" (notice the red duplos and paper to indicate...fire!) and art projects that were glittered every time. We painted with wooden stampers, sponges, and on foil to make it all seem all the more wintry. Each child constructed a lantern with paper mache for the Peace Assembly next week. A favorite activity was the mixing up of "clean mud", which as you can see by the photos started with toilet paper, grated soap, and water, and now has become a malleable mud that houses polar bears and is used to make walls and igloos. Our greeting one morning was the building of a snowflake with string. The room is busy with cooperative active play, and we get outside all bundled up when we can!

Winter is a Comin' In!!!

The art table is covered with glitter, there's an igloo to crawl into, and the sand table has a snow storm in it. It really does look like winter! The children created "potion paintings" this week, and chose from a number of ingredients to make their potion their own. Shaving cream, paint, glue, dish soap, glitter, salt, more glitter, and spoons to stir all added to the excitement! There are many objects to paint with that look like snowflakes, even potato mashers. The grass is green, but there are many snow-wishers amongst the Pre-K's. We'll wait and see what happens next!
