November Continues.....

This week has been a week of music, food, and more discoveries about autumn. The children explored seeds and our favorite seed, the popcorn kernel!
We baked bread for the Harvest Feast (there should be plenty!) and made bouquets of dried flowers that we had picked on our windy walk.
We celebrated another birthday, and had a visit to practice our breathing and counting for meditation and relaxation.
The classroom was candlelit as we shared legends from long ago, and the children helped in telling a story and singing a song. We shared musical instruments on the science table, and paraded, sang together, and accompanied our friends musically as they danced.
The block corner was changed to "unit blocks" which sparked the children's imagination and interest!

We're taking an even closer look at autumn in the PreK classroom! We've glued seeds to paper, painted and printed with potatoes and pinecones, and sung songs about the earth and barnyards. The children made mashed potatoes to share at snack time, and we are looking at "tree seeds" in our science table, including pinecones.
We shared birthdays with special treats and wishes, and had guest readers galore (thank you!)
We have made many shakers, with cardboard tubes, egg cartons, and gourds...and we have a few songs to sing with them. The children follow the music and contribute their own rhythm to each song.
Each day with children is an absolutely new day, and we enjoy every moment!

The children have continued to be very engaged in group dynamic play, and writing has been added to the mix. You will begin to see notes posted on the cubbies and in the classroom as we begin to realize the staying power of the written word.
We had a very interesting visit to the fire station, and the children performed their Fire Fighter songs and answered Fire Safety Questions and enjoyed having their book read aloud to the visitors.
A few new "math" building toys have been introduced and enjoyed, and we've begun our "Harvest" and "Gifts from the Earth" Unit by painting gourds and continuing to bake with apples :o).
We had a "buddy hike" on Friday to celebrate our special day, and the children noticed some very big trees out in those woods.
