Teddy Bears and Outer Space

For this post I've combined our Teddy Bear Week and the beginnings of our study of Outer Space. The children enjoyed sharing stories about their bears and the picnic was a great success with musical accompaniment from George. We had our own "build a bear" station, painted bears, told stories about our stuffed animals, and we got to meet "Gigi," Michele's special giraffe. We made our  own sandwiches for the Teddy Bear Picnic to pack in our bags.

what do you need to make a sandwich?

You decide!

George gets to know our bears.
Outer Space Week means that there is jewel filled sand in the sensory table. Moon Sand? The "robot workshop" is very popular as the children sit and combine and construct little pieces to make their own creations. The workshop table is a very popular spot, and we've instituted a sign up list for the eager space engineers.

The construction of a "rocket ship" has begun. We talked about how space engineers would work together, make plans, and take turns if there wasn't a box for each engineer. The children agreed that if there was problem, the engineer would need to make another choice. We mostly agreed that if someone wants to help, and asks, you say "YES." One child said "if you need a window because you can't see you can ask the teacher!"We'll continue with our outer space theme next week. Look for the galaxies that will be hanging from the ceiling!
