Structures and Stories

We spent the week constructing structures from wood bits and writing stories about them. We also had the opportunity to dictate an original story and illustrate it for sharing in the classroom. Every child found their voice, as they were motivated to build and then so proud of their work that they had a lot to say about it. I love to see the children's faces when I read back their story to them.

We have also spent time dictating original stories and illustrating them. To set the children up for this activity, We ask them if they'd like to write a book, so that they have a sense that the work will be more than one page. We think and talk together about a possible topic, and then the child begins dictating their story, and then illustrates each page according to the words they have shared. We will read the stories aloud to our peers soon, and gather comments from the audience.

We were able to get outside for some lovely walks this week, and were excited to see so much green and the buds opening up on the trees. We also collected trash from the field to "help take care of the earth" for Earth Day.

Until Next Time,
Michele
