Fire Fighters and a Visit to the Fire House

We spent some time talking about what we might see at the fire house, and offered many opportunities for the children to engage in fire fighter related play-city blocks with fire trucks, a small tabletop fire station and trucks,  safety vests and helmets on the rug, and many art projects such as gluing pieces to make a fire truck, string painting, and painting with fire truck wheels. We had an eventful trip to the fire station which included singing our songs, reading our Fire Station Book, and climbing onto the fire trucks. We read books such as Fireman Small Fire Down Below and Clifford the Big Red Dog's Visit to the FireHouse and Fireman Ted . The children all consider Fire Fighters to be helpers, and rescuers, and know that even though they wear a lot of gear they are still people to trust.
