Wind Week adds a bit of pre-Spring color and activity to our classroom! We made paper plate kites and tried them out outside, cut "wind spirals" and watched them move, and blew bubbles in the sensory table. The science table had tornado and fountain bottles that were powered by the movement of air. During our story time, we talked about the wind bringing the weather, listened to some poems about the wind, and danced to "Windy!" Our Spanish words reflected our wind theme, and we decorated "hot air" balloons to celebrate the wind.
Even our snack involved "working" air. We listened as air filled a canister of cream, and ate the lovely whipped cream that resulted. We felt and listened to the hot air that popped the popcorn on our cooking day. "Wind Week" was colorful, required some fine motor and construction skills, and stretched our imaginations as we learned how wind makes the weather.
