"Silly Week" in preschool is an opportunity for all of us to play with
being flexible, trying new things, and laughing. We prepare the children
the week before by asking them what they would like to plan for Silly
Week, writing out a week's schedule, and letting them express their
thoughts freely about how they would like to "celebrate" each day. The
children chose the themes for each day (we did help a little bit!) and
the teachers did their best to have each day be a bit of a celebration. Silly Week for four year olds gives a sense of "ownership" to their learning and pride in their classroom, as they planned for this day. They enjoy announcing to everyone in the school why they are dressed up. We even paraded for the middle school as they were waiting for us to leave the gym (they clapped).
This year we added a "Tinker Lab" which was tables of bins for the children to make things from. You might have noticed some interesting creations from this tinker table!
Until Next Time,
Michele
