Pizza Restaurant is a favorite theme for the PreK 4's. We, the teachers, try to determine why pizza catches all of the children's imaginations; perhaps it's because pizza is a "celebratory" or "party" food, or because it's a shared experience among all the children, or because pizza is just a delicious food that many of us like to eat! For whatever reason, we are enjoying our Pizza Restaurant time. We had a pizza kitchen and restaurant table set up with menus, cups for drinks, plates, plenty of paper pizzas and pizza boxes, aprons, and pads to write the orders on. The children had listed everything that they felt our restaurant needed, and we were able to comply except with the "video game" request. You'll see by the pictures that there were opportunities for role play and social language, authentic writing, money exchange, and following directions to provide pizzas. The children were quite independent in negotiating their roles in the restaurant! Our art work, songs, and stories also reflected the Pizza theme. We even had a pizza delivered to our classroom on Wednesday, and then we made and delivered a pizza to our Pre-K 3 friends on Thursday!
Until Next Time,
Michele
