This week we talked about ourselves! We measured ourselves on the door and talked about comparing sizes, wrote books about ourselves to be read to our friends, and drew and painted self portraits. The children loved hearing their dictated stories read aloud, and we applauded each author. The "ME" books are now on the bookshelf, and the children read them to themselves and each other. We had many discussions about emotions and sang "If You're Happy and You Know It" including emotions like Angry and Sad to express ourselves with loud stamping or pretend tears. When we sing a song like this together, it helps us to remember that we all have feelings and we can express them!
My favorite part of the week was seeing the focus with which the children created their "ME" books. They were motivated and excited, and worked hard to draw themselves and their families.
Until Next Time,
Michele

| some of the "self portraits" had whole families in them, which seems to be the experience of "self" for many of the children. |
