A Colorful Fall Week!

This week was a week of Firsts for the PreK 4's. We began writing and coloring in our journals and they have already become a valued choice during the morning and after lunch. The four year olds are beginning to work to be in the "group", and often when a gang is building there will be workers, observers, suppliers, idea people, and somehow it all comes together and everyone fits.
They've built a structure together with the hollow blocks that everyone could fit on, and had a long discussion about what it was. There were many choruses of "10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,blast off!" which seemed to indicate space travel.

We cooked, printed with, and polished apples. Our songs were about farms and harvesting and our favorites, apples and pumpkins.

Buddies

We've met our buddies, and have already written a book together, THE BUDDY BUDDY BOOK!






















































Apples, Autumn, and Artwork! (oh, and a BUS!)

The sun DID shine, and we had a wonderful trip to the apple orchard! The children had enjoyed songs about apple harvesting and making applesauce and counting apples as they fell from a tree, and the trip was a busy, joyful apple picking time:o) We'll be cooking with apples and eating apples for a few days......
The children's artwork and easel work continues to reflect the colors of the season, with red and green creations at the easel, and brilliant autumn colors to paint, glue and print.
We had a wonderful trip to the museum on Monday, and the children voted for the BIG SCHOOL BUS as being their favorite part.
The children have had gym time during rainy days, and find very creative ways to move about together!

Autumn Colors

We have begun our study of fall and the colors and textures of fall. The children enjoy sorting "vegetables" from "fruits" and "farm animals". We have printed leaf shapes with brilliant fall colors, and glued a collage of leaf and tree colors onto blue paper. We sang a song about picking apples, and performed an impromptu "leaf dance" (we were the trees) to a leaf poem. As you will see from our photos, we spend a lot of time in small groups now, and we're working hard to negotiate the fine points of friendships and taking turns. We made hummous from chickpeas, and everyone tried at least a "no thank you" bite. Guest readers continue to be very popular! And thank you, guests, for lunch time help!
