Day Sky Night Sky

Day Sky Night Sky becomes Planet study in the PreK 4 classroom- the children have embraced the science of the solar system, learning the planets, their characteristics, and the order in which they orbit around the sun. We know that we live on Earth, and that the moon is a big rock.  Our art projects continue the learning as we created a sun from yellow and orange collage, the moon by printing bubble wrap onto a black circle, and planets and the solar system with bright chalk and paint. we have songs about spinning around the sun, and the order of the planets, and a "moon moon moon" song.

We're looking forward to exploring space travel with our boxes to color and play in, a space station with a key board and books and planets, and cell phones and other electronic looking devices.

We began the unit by asking the children what they knew about the solar system- it turns out that they know a lot!  The question "what do we know/" set the stage for an in depth exploration of the solar system.

We refer to books and pictures when we are drawing- the children begin to value using reference materials!

we have a "light show" when we're taking a short break on the rug....

Until Next Time,
Michele
