We have begun to really explore the colors and happenings of fall, painting "forests" of fall colors, finding gourds and indian corn and sunflower seed heads to touch and talk about on the science table, and making apple pancakes.
The children have begun to reach out to each other and try different friendships, groups, and ways to play. We noticed a "rocket ship airplane" on the block rug that had a power outage story and a few observers and a few "worker bees." There were maps being drawn of outer space that were explained to the co-astronaut, and even a way for an alien to be on a rocket ship ("how about you're an alien astronaut?" "I'm a good alien"). We heard trips being planned, menus being sorted, and babies being taken care of in small and large groups of children. At the same time, individual children sought out quiet moments on their own to absorb themselves in sorting, painting, or cutting out shapes with scissors, creating a balance of social interactions. We had a wonderful week!
Until Next Time,
Michele
