We began our week with a discussion about the rocket ship which we called "brainstorming". We said that we were going to collect ideas, and that all the ideas needed to be written down without anyone saying "no!" to an idea, otherwise it wouldn't be a storm. The children had many do-able ideas, including lights, flames (red cellophane!) tubes for motors, windows, and doors. As the rocket ship has evolved this week, you'll notice that it is a compilation of individual rocket ships. Each child has found their own box, written their name on it and anything that goes in it, and decorated with stickers and markers. Sometimes the rocket ships get together, but they are mostly individuals. We added small flashlights to the play, and there were many experiments with making light travel between boxes and down tubes. The children have also had a few "planet shows" which involve costumes and labels and talking about yourself as a planet. Our art work has meant constructing a sun, moon, stars, and the beautiful planet earth. Each child's "galaxy" will be hanging from the ceiling next week! We are so fortunate to be a part of your child's pre-k adventure, because adventurous it certainly is!
