We welcomed the children back with "Pasta Week" which was a few days of sorting pasta, stringing pasta, gluing and glittering pasta, and a popular activity, PAINTING with spaghetti....which involves cooked spaghetti, paint, paper, and ready hands; reciting poems about spaghetti, 

"I said, 'throw confetti', They must have misheard me, 'cause they all threw spaghetti!"

and reading books about pasta, like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.  A favorite book was a book about Minnie and Freddie, who loved spaghetti. The culminating activity was a pasta lunch with our 4/5 buddies, complete with salad and bread and ziti AND dessert. Coming back to a familiar and playful activity like pasta helps us to transition back to the activity and social whirl of the prek classroom!

Peppermint Playdough Magic

We set out peppermint playdough this week with simple rollers and cookie cutters, and it was magic! The calm focus, generosity (chairs were added to the table) and conversations were wonderful to behold.

There were other sensory choices with art work, including marble painting (clackety clack), sand and glitter, gluing of textures, and painting with shaving cream.

talkin' about buddies.....

One of the benefits of being part of this school community is our time that we spend with our 4/5 buddies. The children quickly learn that they have a good friend amongst the big kids, and look for each other in the halls for a high five or a smile. There are often pictures or cards drawn by buddies to buddies in cubbies, and we spend time writing or painting or reading or playing together. I thought to share images of some of our best buddy activities lately, from painting wooden houses together to visiting in the big buddies classroom, to just hanging out.
