We began our study of the Sky this week, and enjoyed books about space travel, planet facts, and some fictional books about aliens and landing on the moon. The children created galaxies, with stars, a sun, a moon, and a "gentle blue giant" of an earth shape. We sang a song about the "gentle blue giant", learned poems about stars, traveling to the moon, and planet orbits. Our big news is a work in progress, a rocket ship constructed of cardboard boxes, shiny paper, tubes, and child constructed cardboard spaces. We've left cardboard pieces, paper, markers, and cardboard tubes for the children to use as "loose pieces" in the ongoing construction of the rocket ship. A karaoke player and microphones made our voices loud and echoing. There was a "fix it" shop set up on a table, and everyone had a try at taking apart and putting together telephones, a typewriter, computers, and then creating their own inventions.We've enjoyed the fact that the children are pulling their parents and family into the classroom to see the rocket ship!
