It's Windy!

The weather cooperated for our wind week explorations...making kites, flying them, and running like the wind! The children practiced their cutting and stapling and stringing to construct paper chains, twirly hangers, and windsocks. We read books about the wind, and learned that wind can "come through a door without any key." There were bottles with tornado tubes and fountains that changed as we moved them around. The blocks have been given more attention lately to construct complicated and involved structures.
What fun! Is Spring here?!

Pizza, Pizza, and More Pizza

We also made cake! The children visited the grocery store to make pizza, decorate a cake, and basically eat our way through the store! Thank you so much to the generous staff that made this trip both delicious and educational! We also enjoyed the winter wonderland that occurred due to the ice storm, and found out that ice makes a very good building block.

Pizza!

Pizza Week is a busy week of role playing, cooking, and enjoying our welcome back to the classroom after a break. The children swarmed the restaurant, easily switching roles from customer to cashier to chef to pizza delivery. My favorite part of the restaurant is the cash register. If you don't have money to "pay," the cashier will hand you some from the open drawer, and then give you change. Every time! (and they do take "cards" there).

Read Across America Day was a day of reading and enjoying our costumes. The children watched a puppet show, played in their "character roles", and we had a visit from a local artist/author who read her book to us and then drew a character using our suggestions. The children colored it in beautifully!
