Rainbow Round ME

We feel like we've been together for a while, although it's only been 4 days! The children are forming new friendships, working to be together and learn about each other, and enjoying exploring the classroom and learning about their responsibilities. We, their teachers, are learning about each child in this new community we've formed.  We have shared books about colors and rainbows, learned a rainbow song, and spent time making rainbow art.

The children seem comfortable in their space as you will see from our photos. We've had some very successful circle times including reading messages, reading stories aloud, and singing. We're excited about every day!
The sensory table is filled with colored rice, and the easel is open most days. We started with red!

The science table includes butterfly chrysalis and colors!

The children choose each day the activities that they are interested in. The block corner is open, and there are shelves of other manipulative building toys that can be explored as well. Clean up can be quite a task, but so far we are all very helpful!

Each day the "messenger" dictates a message to Agi. She writes it word for word, and the child illustrates or writes their name. At morning meeting, their message will be featured.

We are already seeing some new friendships forming amongst the children.

As a teacher, I'm happy to see children lying down and crowding together as they play. It denotes comfort and ease in the classroom setting.

The dress up area is open as well, and is filled with
pretend items such as food, containers, baskets, clothing, and trays.

Markers and paper as well as scissors and tape are always available to the children. This child is writing a loving note to her family.

Sometimes a microphone is all that you need! (And maybe a stage)

We have hatched a butterfly! We watched it emerge from the chrysalis and rest, and took it outside to the accompaniment of our own gentle butterfly wings.....

Out we go!

We had a guest this week! Laura, our head of school, came in to see us and visit our butterfly!
This is a favorite activity-mixing colors with eyedroppers and ice trays. Such excitement as the children used primary colors to mix green, orange, brown, and even "black." We refill their trays as they shout "Look! I made pink! "

Jen, the Spanish teacher, comes in on Thursday mornings to participate in activities, converse in Spanish,  and read us a book in Spanish. T'his "immersion" time aids in later interest and familiarity with learning Spanish in the higher grades.

We've had a few wonderful morning meetings as the children adjust to our routine!

Until Next Time,
Michele
