A Shoe Store, PreK 4 Style!

We created a shoe store in our classroom this week, with shoes, boxes, a cash register, and lots of notebooks and receipt books for writing with.
 So many skills to practice!

Social Emotional- role play, turn taking, social language ("would you like to buy some shoes?")

Math Skills- size, shape comparisons, size language (small, medium, large) measuring, money skills ( I bought a pair of slippers that cost one hundred million eighteen!) pairs and matching and number recognition.
Motor Skills- putting on and taking off shoes independently, writing receipts, stickers to put on shoe boxes, opening and closing shoe boxes.

Even a bobcat likes a new pair of shoes!

These great kicks just didn't fit!

There are shoe cleaning options available as well, pump bottles, sponges, cloths for polishing, jars to open, and shoe laces to replace.

We have a sign up sheet at the cash register to make sure that everyone gets a turn!

We also looked at our five senses this week, both in English and Spanish. Our art work included a "looker" made with cardboard tubes and colorful cellophane, "shakers" that the children filled with items of their choice (rubber bands, dried pasta, cotton swabs), a touch collage of different types of materials, and a "coffee" bear to sniff. We also created a sensory soup this week, bowls filled with fresh herbs and lemons to squeeze and shred and stir for an olfactory experience.

And, finally, the weather became wintry and we went outside!
