We have settled into a routine of free play, circle times, outdoor play, and everything in between!  This week we had a guest reader, a grandfather from Mexico, who read Goodnight Moon to us, and the children identified happily with the happenings in the book as it was read in Spanish.  Wednesdays will be Writing Workshop Day, and we sat together to write/illustrate/read books of our own creation. We reassure the children that they are writers writing a book like a four or five year old would.  We love to hear their stories! They can be very relevant to happenings in the world(weather books with rain), completely imaginative(unicorn books), or lists(a book of faces), or autobiographical(a book about camping). I've put in parenthesis the books that I heard this week!  We baked our fist muffins this week, proving that you can never have too many bakers if they all take turns.  Journals have entered the classroom in the form of composition books that are available to the children to use throughout the day. There are different levels of interest, but they are of value. Here we are, only a few days into the school year, and the children are very comfortable with their space and taking on their responsibilities with aplomb. The greeting person sends a greeting around the circle, this week a foot touch was very popular, and the quiet eyes sits above all and calls on the children who are look ready to line up. Snack helpers are eager to place napkins and cups around the table, and the line leader and line sweep organize that line. Climber the gerbil has never had so much attention to sleep through, and the clean up bell rings out every day.

Until Next Time,
Michele
