Pizza Restaurant

Pizza everywhere you look! We made rhymes about pizza, baked our own pizza, and ran a Pizza Restaurant for a whole week. The children enjoyed the role playing and learned to take turns at the cash register. We referred to professionalism in the work place when we needed to! Our art work reflected the look of pizza, also, as we painted, glued, and even collaged a huge pizza to share as slices when it dried. Pizzas were delivered everywhere in the classroom, to dress up, tables, and even to the block corner. The pizzas were paper but the mood was authentic!

Fairy Tales for a very short week!

We just had time for some creative thinking and writing and sharing of our favorite fairy tales. The children wrote stories with their buddies, after we had discussed "what makes a fairy tale a fairy tale?". We all knew that the beginning, Once Upon a Time, and the end, Happily Ever After, mattered the most. (and, of course, the magic!) We painted and glittered, made crowns, and listened to a guest reader read to us about Rapunzel. There was, of course, time for dancing and building.

A Solar System, Continued......

Here's how our week of solar system study ended, with a very cozy pajama party for all! The children said "goodbye" to the rocket ship,( which took a few trips to the recycle bin to dismantle!), and we enjoyed guest readers, baking cookies, and dancing to a planet song as well as learning about the "day" and "night" work of the spinning globe and the giant star, our sun.

Outer Space

How to build a rocket ship....
FIRST brainstorm your ideas all together. Then get to work. Cardboard works really well, as well as clothespins and sparkly stars. When you're finished, check the drawing board. Have you included everything? We noticed that we forgot wings, butwe've included fire, and buttons for starting, and windows, and artwork, and an entrance and exit. When your rocket ship is built, you can read in it, play, have snack, and keep decorating. Make sure that you establish rules, like slow motion, quiet, and take turns.
