Bug Week!

Bug Week has been a hit with all of the children. We learned about bee keeping and tried on a bee hat with a special visitor, and have been exploring all sorts of bugs in all sorts of sizes. Our books have been about insects and bugs, and the children have learned a few songs with silly lyrics. Our art work has reflected the colors and shapes of bugs, from beautiful butterflies to bug collages. We celebrated a summer birthday with a guitar sing-a-long and a special treat!

Bug Week!

Fish in the Sea!!

We spent a few weeks creating, playing, and singing about fish. The children danced to the "Octopus Garden" song, and sang about fish in the sea. We read books about fish, both non-fiction and fiction. A favorite was "I Was All Thumbs" about an octopus named Legs. The children painted, glued, and drew fish, and made themselves into octopuses and swordfish with paper and tape. Fun!

A Picnic and what seemed like a quick week!

We had a picnic and lots of fun at the park. The children explored the climbing structure, ran through the field, picked buttercups and saw a "waterfall". We shared a snack of watermelon and crackers, and then ate lunch in the pavilion. Fun!

We have been talking about "fish in the sea" this week, and will continue with "fish" next week, also, as the days are just flying by!

TREES

We explored trees this week. We looked closely at trees, made bark rubbings and leaf rubbings, and learned "how to be a tree". The children drew trees from their imagination, and then we visited a tree outside to make an observational drawing. We painted with branches and leaves of various trees, and printed leaves onto a t-shirt. We can wear our t-shirts for our upcoming picnic (photo op!)

We had a beautiful walk on our field trip and noticed a lot of different trees and woodpecker holes, and turtles on the logs.

Our week culminated in our depiction of a "forest" of trees, with our crowns of leaves, bark, and roots to drink up water from the earth. Each child has put together a book of all of our experiences, which we'll call A Book of Trees. Look for it!!
