Growing!

A week of growing things! We planted beans, salad, and flowers, and have been recording the changes each day. Friday brought our first sprout! The children enjoyed all the outside play time, as well as exploring the dirt and the waiting for the sprouting to happen. Our songs have been about gardens and what plants need to grow.
Our favorite activity this week has been the beginnings of a creative writing activity, and the children are each getting a moment to write and illustrate their own book, which we then read to the rest of the class. I'm always amazed at the stories that are written, and the listening skills of the audience. The children identify their stories and the stories of their peers as either "fiction" or "non-fiction", and remember details to share during discussions.

I Wonder if I'm Growing?

We discovered that yes, we are indeed growing! The children measured themselves, drew self-portraits, and talked about how they know that they are growing. It was a week of self-discovery and originality! We spent a beautiful day visiting baby animals! The sun was shining, and we rode our bikes and spent lots of time outside:o). We are rehearsing and learning about Shakespeare! So much to do, and so much more to come.

SiLlY WeEK

Silly week was a week of joke telling, silly crafts, backwards and opposites, and overall a very good time.
On dress silly day we made silly hats and had a silent but silly parade through the school.
Pirate day brought a treasure hunt through the school, a sail to build a boat under, and pirate stories that have been requested again and again.
On backwards day, we had snack on the rug and circle at the table! We painted with our feet, messed with shaving cream, and really enjoyed the day.
Joke day was greeted with knock knock jokes and silly poems. Here are a few of my favorites: "Why did the gum cross the road? Because it was stuck to the chicken's foot!" "Knock Knock, Who's There? Nobody, Nobody Who? (silence)" Knock Knock, Who's There? Bear, Bear Who? Bear's don't say who, Owls say who!"
